County of Lexington announces Sarah Johnson as new Economic Development Director

Lexington, S.C. - The County of Lexington is excited to announce the hiring of Sarah Johnson as the County’s new Economic Development Director.

Johnson is charged with growing the economic health of the County by building relationships with local, national and international companies, while also making our community a viable place to develop, expand and cultivate lasting business opportunities.

“I was born and raised in Lexington County, so I am excited to leave a lasting impression here,” Johnson said. “I want to build upon the positive growth we have experienced thus far and think strategically in order to make a positive impact and prove that Lexington County is the ideal place for businesses to locate to and grow for years to come.”

Johnson, a Gilbert native, began her career with the County of Lexington’s Department of Economic Development in 2010, supporting the director as a part of a two-person team. Since 2016, Johnson has helped bring 1,332 jobs and $667 million in investments from new business projects and expansions to the County.

In 2010, Johnson received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Clemson University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She then graduated from the South Carolina Economic Development Institute in 2012, before obtaining her Master of Arts in Organizational Change and Leadership from Columbia College in 2014, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Most recently, Johnson graduated from the Georgia Tech Basic Economic Development Course in 2017 and is working towards graduating from the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute in May 2020.

Johnson currently resides in Lexington with her husband and two daughters.
