The Doris Burkett Scholarship


The $5,000 Doris Burkett Scholarship will be awarded to a Lexington School District One student who will be attending either a technical college or a four-year college or university.

This scholarship places emphasis on moral integrity and the potential of the individual to become a productive citizen.

Scholarship Criteria

Students shall be evaluated on the following criteria:

  1. Strives to be academically successful and possesses a grade point average of 2.0 - 3.5
  2. Has a need for financial assistance
  3. Shows ambition to achieve excellence
  4. Participates in extracurricular activities
  5. Involvement in community (i.e. church, volunteering, etc.)
  6. Possesses an interest and ability to “give back” to the Lexington community

All applications must be received at the Chamber no later than Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

You can either complete and return the scholarship application package to your Career Specialist (prior to March 31, 2021) or deliver your package to the Chamber office at 311 W. Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072.

About Doris Burkett

The late Doris Burkett served as the Executive Director of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce from 1982 to 1994 and was a graduate of Gilbert High School. A scholarship fund was established in her memory by her family and has been administered by the Lexington Chamber & Visitors Center since 1995.
