HISTORY

The Jo-Nathan Foundation was established in memory of Jonathan (Jo-Nathan) Devontae Simpkins in June 2011. Jonathan was born as the middle son of Jackie and Walter Simpkins, both natives of Edgefield, SC. He was a 1995 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School. Before his untimely death on September 18, 1998, Jonathan was one year from completing his degree in Electrical Engineering from South Carolina State University.

This foundation aims to allow Jo-Nathan’s name to live on by providing the opportunity for interested youth to receive Education, Experiences, and Exposures that will inspire them to do something positive in life. Whether it is a camp focused on science, SAT preparation, cheerleading, art, or whatever interests the qualified child, The Jo-Nathan Foundation is committed to making the opportunity a reality.

MISSION

Our mission is to inspire youth by providing opportunities to attend summer camps and other educational activities via tuition or fee sponsorship. The foundation is also devoted to partnering with existing organizations that share the common goal of helping youth in surrounding communities.

THE JO-NATHAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The goal of The Jo-Nathan Foundation (TJF) is to expose youth, referred to as Jo-Nathan scholars, to positive and inspiring experiences.  The Jo-Nathan Foundation scholarship fund provides sponsorships for youth to attend a variety of events and activities. We are proud of our accomplishments in helping youth thus far and look forward to many years to come! In just 7 short years, The Jo-Nathan Foundation has provided 603 scholars the opportunity to attend camps of their choice.  For additional information or camp scholarship opportunities, see camp application descriptions below.

Be The Change Leadership Camp

This camp will allow 70 youth ages 12-16 to enhance their communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills. The Be The Change Leadership Camp will be held June 20-23, 2019 at Camp Long in Aiken, South Carolina. Each scholar will leave this camp with a detailed plan on how they can implement positive change in their community. Interested individuals should visit our website at www.thejo-nathanfoundation.org.

 A Camp of Your Choice

The Jo-Nathan Foundation mission is to inspire youth ages 12-17 by providing opportunities to attend summer camps and other educational activities via tuition or fee sponsorship. The foundation is devoted to partnering with existing organizations with a common goal of helping youth in their surrounding communities. The Jo-Nathan Foundation will strive to provide the opportunity to attend various summer camps and activities that inspired Jo-Nathan and the founders of this foundation. Our hope is that if a young person receives this scholarship to attend a camp or educational experience, it will aid in that young person to make positive steps toward a productive future. No matter the focus, The Jo-Nathan Foundation is committed to making this opportunity possible through scholarships and financial assistance. Interested individuals should visit our website at www.thejo-nathanfoundation.org.
